We have been reading and learning about the Holocaust this year. We read "Devil's Arithmetic". looked at the US Holocaust Museum website, and watched a DVD about a Holocaust survivor. At the beginning we listed words that we knew about Nazis, the Holocaust, and World War II (WWII). We are going to do that again. Post a comment with ten or more words you now know.
This week we continued reading our book, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". We began watching the movie and I was surprised at how different it was. We also checked out Jeff Kinney's website and shared some things we learned about him and his books. We did a writing journal on Monday. I love when we share our writing. One of our quiet reading days this week, we read poetry books and shared a poem that made us smile (Sarusht) or made us think. We also worked on homework. We are trying hard (I think) to not get behind in our work to help keep our grades up. I believe good attendance is a big part of this and we calculated our 4th quarter attendance to see what the percentage was.
OK, this week, like always we should reply to this post. What did we learn? What did we do that helped? Did not help? Anything I left out? Then, I want you to comment on another person's reply. It can be from Week 1 or 2 or 3 or even 4. Remember, what makes a good comment. This week we are going to think about the upcoming MAP test. Last Friday in HomeRoom we talked the Map test and ways to do better. Look at the ideas on the board. Think about them. What are one or two ideas you could do to help improve YOUR scores. Please share your ideas about what you could do.
It's been a busy week. We are reading our book, "Diary of a Wimpy Kid". The groups worked on their tweets for JK Rowling. Trying to keep our tweets to 140 characters is harder than I thought. We finished "The Devil's Arithmetic" and did a reading response. We have been learning more about WWII, the Holocaust, and the concentration camps while we read our book. The class started reading our National Geographic magazine. Carter picked the article to read this time-Ice Age. We have also been working on our class work and homework. This quarter we are trying to not get behind in our work.
Today I want us to reflect on our trip. First we went to the Eagleton Federal Courthouse. We heard a talk from a federal marshall. We learned about the different parts of the courtroom. Then we sat in on a woman, convicted of fraud, being sentenced. We finished our the first part with a trip to the 28 floor. The next part of our trip was lunch and ice skating at the Kirkwood Ice Rink. Many of us tried ice skating for the first time. Think for a minute about what you learned and what you enjoyed about our day. Also think about how the trip could have been improved. OK, now it's your turn to write.
